In 2021, we worked with the Philippine Society for Responsible Parenthood and UNFPA to support the Business Action for Family Planning project across Regions 9 and 10. Our shared goal was to help companies provide employees with access to reproductive health services where they spend much of their time at work.
A Workplace-Based Approach
This project helped companies integrate family planning into their occupational health systems. For employees, this meant better access to information and services. For companies, this meant healthier workers and fewer disruptions due to health-related absences. It was a practical solution that respected personal choice while promoting overall well-being.
Working with Key Employers
In Cagayan de Oro, we partnered with Del Monte Philippines. We organized both in-person and online family planning sessions at their Bugo and Camp Phillips sites. These activities restarted once pandemic restrictions eased. Nine employees eventually accessed methods including pills, implants, condoms, and standard days method beads.
In Zamboanga City, we worked with Universal Canning. Together, we held eight sessions during employee breaks and organized two service provision events. Twenty-four employees received family planning methods such as pills, condoms, and implants. Some workers shared cultural or religious reasons for declining services, and we supported their right to informed choice while continuing to offer accurate information.
How It Worked on the Ground
We coordinated with the Commission on Population, hired field health coordinators, and conducted orientations with local providers. All activities followed DOH guidelines and were made possible through strong support from company leadership.
Company nurses and private midwives helped deliver services. Our team provided group education and individual counseling, combining in-person and virtual strategies to make sessions safe and flexible. This approach helped employees get the services they needed without disrupting their work schedules.
Moving Forward
This project showed that workplace-based family planning programs are not only possible but effective. They meet people where they are, make services more accessible, and create healthier environments for everyone.
