Planning Your Family? PhilHealth Now Covers Long Term Birth Control Methods
July 12, 2025
If you have been thinking about getting an intrauterine device, an implant, or even a permanent option like bilateral tubal ligation or vasectomy, but worried about the cost, here is some good news. The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, or PhilHealth, now covers several long term family planning procedures. This gives more Filipinos access to safe, effective, and affordable choices.
Here are the covered procedures:
- Intrauterine device (IUD) insertion — ₱3,900
- Subdermal contraceptive implant — ₱5,850
- Vasectomy — ₱7,800
- Bilateral tubal ligation (BTL) — ₱7,800
These amounts are paid directly by PhilHealth to accredited health facilities. They are meant to cover the entire cost of the procedure, including the facility fee and the doctor’s fee.
If you avail of the procedure in a public health facility, such as a rural health unit, health center, or government hospital, you should not be charged anything out of pocket. Under the Universal Health Care Law, every Filipino is automatically covered by PhilHealth, and in public facilities, the case rate is accepted as full payment for these services.
If you choose to go to a private hospital or clinic, PhilHealth will still provide the same benefit amount. However, private providers may charge you extra if their fees are higher than what PhilHealth covers. It is best to ask the clinic or doctor ahead of time to avoid unexpected charges.
This benefit is a major step forward in helping individuals and couples take charge of their reproductive plans. Whether you are spacing your children or ready for a permanent method, you can now access quality services with fewer financial worries.
To get started, visit your nearest public health center or PhilHealth accredited facility. Bring your PhilHealth identification number and ask about the family planning options that best suit your needs.
